I had several surgeries in the 1960s. I hardly remember any of my surgeries before Sept. 1969.  I only remember parts of the surgeries I had in September and October 1969.  I've had people tell me that they remember all their surgeries including those they had as infants.  And I've had double the number of surgeries they have.  And more major surgeries than they've had.

I credit my mom with beginning to teach me many things during the 1960s about my facial condition and everything else.  By the time I was five years old, I knew that I had been born without a nose.  I was starting to ask a lot of questions about my surgeries and hospitalizations.
