This section contains pictures from the ice storm that devastated the greater Kansas City area in late January and early February 2002. It was the worst ice storm in Kansas City history. On this date, the ice began to accumulate on objects, such as trees and cars. That evening, the power went off at the house and remained off until Sun., Feb. 3, 2002. During the evening, transformers were blowing and tree branches were falling. On this date, the ice had really done same major damage. The ice was weighing down the trees. Tree branches and trees were still falling. The ice was up to an inch thick. On this date, the sun finally shone. It made for a spectacular sight with all the ice. The ice began to melt in earnest but still brought down many tree branches as well as whole trees. Back to 2002 Main Page First created: Thurs., Feb. 14, 2002 copyright © 2002 - Kristi L.
